Background

On 17 December 1996, United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 November as World Television Day through resolution 51/205. Along with the accelerated popularization of Internet, the two decades followed have since witnessed the upheaval of mass communication structure.

The traditional TV media is facing a difficult time under the wave of new media. In the meantime, the future expansion of TV as a medium is now a constant topic discussed and studied by scholars and also the whole industry. We believe that no matter how the new media develops, TV will still hold its traditional advantages. These advantages can be the key of media convergence. So we need to find a direction for future TV and it is definitely an urgent need.

In recent years, the Chinese broadcasters have made unremitting efforts to push forward the TV reform process. However there is still long way to go. So it is important to have a platform for broadcasters from both local and foreign countries to gather together and have in-depth discussions. As a result, the broadcasters can broaden their horizon and the whole industry will benefit from it. Holding “World Television Day-China Television Conference” in every year is what we believe could make a great contribution.

November 21, 2015 is the 20th World Television Day. Also in this year, the 1st World Television Day - China Television Conference was held in Beijing on Nov. 21-22. It is the largest TV-industry event ever hosted in China in terms of the scale and the number of participants. It contained 1 main forum and 13 sub forums.
